USELESS featured on the Alternative Consumer

An ironic product name can often take a company a long way. In this case, use less is the message, and Useless is the name – we all could do a little less consuming of everything – whether it be too many Halloween gummy bears, too many six-packs of bottled water or the plethora of pointless do-dads and gadgets with which we clutter our lives.

U.S.-based Useless makes its hoodies, water bottles, bags and tees from trash, recycled, and/or low impact materials and donates a fat 10% of its profits to developing nations’ water and sanitation products. Good stuff, and far from “useless.” Find out more at useless.org.

I want to live here

I thought I should put up this picture because....I don't know, just because

Jeans with a consience

I like this initiative from Levi's - courtesy of their ad agency BBDO West - encouraging Levi owners to recycle their used jeans by donating them to Goodwill.

Apparently 23.8 billion pounds of clothing and textiles get dumped in landfills each year and this should help reduce the waste.

Nice one guys.

I love this tree!

Check out this website celebrating the wonders of the tree, if for no other reason that because the music is so soothing it'll make you want to put down that kitchen knife...that's it, real slow now, place it back in the knife block...and go and smell the oxygen outside. Hurry, while supplies last!

We Have Become a Spoiled, Obese, Expectant and Fearful People

I just found this blog post written by Adam Shake a few months ago and thought it definitely worth reposting. See what you think. It can be found at:

I may be jaded but I also realize that for thousands of years, people lived without the luxuries that we now consider necessities. In fact, a recent study just found that what we thought were necessities just last year, we think of as luxuries. Things like cell phones, air conditioning…. Not too long ago, electricity and automobiles were luxuries. Maybe as a result, I think that we can all toughen up just a tiny bit.

In 1st world countries, we have become a spoiled, obese, expectant and fearful group of people. We have learned to manipulate nature and our philosophies to our benefit, our comfort and our profit, to the detriment of our planet, our society, our ethics, our health, our children and ourselves.
