I recently had the chance to interview Twitter CEO and co-founder, Evan Williams, a nice lad who grew up on a farm in rural Nebraska. In this exclusive interview Evan talks about how Twitter came about, how it has evolved and, and his approach to innovation. Read on...
Twitter wasn't Evan's first breakthrough product. In 1999 he had started a company called Pyra and, while working on a project management web application as a way to keep track of the project, the team wrote script to turn a personal website into a blog, which eventually turned into Blogger. “It wasn’t at all what our company was planning go do, it was very much just an idea on the side which seemed like a very small idea compared to what we were working on.” They basically just stumbled on the idea behind Blogger.

Mothers' Day is May 10, a day when people honor their mothers for all they've done for them. Some mothers that might be overlooked in the rush to the store to buy a card or flowers are the ones in the developing world who struggle daily to provide their families with food and shelter.
Finding clean water is a big problem for many millions of them. Over a billion people don't have access to clean water and it's usually the women who have to walk miles over dangerous terrain to get it. In fact, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), the average distance that women in Africa and Asia walk to collect water is 4 miles, and the weight of water they carry on their heads is the equivalent of your airport luggage allowance (45lbs).
So, this Mother's Day let's all spare a thought for not only for our own mothers, but for the mothers everywhere who are trying to take care of their families.

"In honor of Earth Day, even the most stylish fashionista should be looking for alternative ways and places to shop and fashion designers who are making waves with their green business practices and recycled products..."

This week Kathy Fletcher, my business partner, and I officially launch USELESS. Funny name for a business you might be thinking. And, on first sight, we’d have to agree. Until you hear that our mission is to help people use less and give more. Use less of the planet’s natural resources, and give more to the people who lack the very basics needed to survive.
Stuff that we in The West often take for granted, such as clean water and sanitation. You might be shocked to learn that 2.4 billion (yes, billion) people lack proper sanitation and the resulting diseases kill a child under five every 17 seconds in the developing world. From the time you started reading this blog until now it’s probably been around 34 seconds. You do the math.

I am a 19 year old girl, sophomore in college (though we actually don’t even use that term at my college), Mexican-American, consider myself a “global citizen” (whatever that even means though I do have my own idea), and I like to laugh. My mind is malleable, but firm- I am quite stubborn. I get easily excited by life and in fact I am often convinced that I am in love with life. Something I believe more people should be, by the way.
This love of life comes from nature to be honest. It amazes me in every way. And I’ve been fortunate enough in my life to be born in one of the most beautiful places in the world, a place I consider to be paradise. I was born in Cozumel, Mexico and I love it, but it has taught me to love nature as well. It is a constant reminder of the awe-inspiring richness of our world and universe. It is a constant reminder that I am nothing but a speck of sand in the reality of existence.
